COVID-19 Response

3/18/20

Rutherford County Clerk Lisa Duke Crowell wants to help citizens obtain the assistance they need while avoiding health risks. As of today, March 18, 2020, all Rutherford County Clerk offices will be closed to the public for INSIDE office services until further notice. As it is, many of the Clerk’s services can be accomplished by telephone contact, postal mail, or online. This article outlines for you ways to be served and protect the citizenry from the spread of viruses.

“As we all attempt to navigate through this uncertain season, we wish to encourage citizens to protect the health of both my staff and the general public,” Crowell said, “and here are my suggestions for working with my office to get what you may need and limit your exposure to potential harm”:

  • Of course, stay home if you are ill

  • Avoid non-essential transactions

  • Limit direct contact between yourself and office staff

  • When at our office, attempt to not have direct contact with hard surfaces and door handles

  • Utilize the Clerk’s online services

  • Clerk staff will be available during standard business hours by telephone, email, and our chat system online

  • Utilize our drive thru windows at our Smyrna and Murfreesboro office locations for vehicle registration needs

  • Tag renewals can also be completed by telephone by using your debit/credit card

  • Some automobile transactions can be processed by mail with a notarized power of attorney (POA) form. The POA can be downloaded in our forms section

  • Apply for business licenses online at: tncountyclerk.com

  • Renew business licenses online at: tn.gov/revenue (click on TnTap)

  • Notary Applications can be downloaded in our forms section - mail the application and check for $14.00 to address below

  • Marriage licenses will be processed by appointment only. Only the couple will be allowed to enter the office for the license process at the time of the appointment. Keep in mind a marriage license is valid for 30 days. Please consider delaying the application process until closer to the wedding date

  • In office passport services will not be available until further notice. Passport renewal applications, however, are available online at travel.state.gov. Mailing instructions are included on the website. Call us if you have any questions.

Certainly, I appreciate your patience as we work together to reduce the spread of the virus. You can always contact us by telephone or chat during office hours, Monday-Thursday 8:00 a.m.- 4:00 p.m. and Friday 8:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m
