Kennel Attendant

(Part- Time)

Department: P.A.W.S. (Pet Adoption and Welfare Services)

Starting Salary: $8.00 per hour

Job Summary:  The purpose of this classification is to perform general work associated with providing effective and efficient animal control. Duties and responsibilities include feeding animals, cleaning cages, laundry, supervising/working with inmates and volunteers, assisting officers with administering vaccinations, assisting public in kennels, and completing other tasks as assigned. Documents all inquiries, service requests, and comments received from the public to provide pertinent information on adoptions, ordinance requirements, spay/neuter questions, and any other type of general information. The position will be required to work weekend and holiday hours. Reports to Animal Control Supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications:  High school diploma or GED and basic knowledge of animal behavior; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Previous experience working in animal care (i.e. pet-sitting experience) preferred. Requires immunization of pre-exposure rabies series. Must possess and maintain a valid Tennessee driver’s license. Must possess basic computer skills, including but not limited to word processing, email, and Internet.

Detention/ Corrections Officer

Department: Juvenile Detention Center

Starting Salary:

$27,800 - $29,850 / year (commensurate with experience)

Job Summary:  The purpose of this classification is to perform security work associated with maintaining the safety, security and welfare of inmates at the Juvenile Detention Center. Duties and responsibilities include enforcing facility rules and regulations, maintaining discipline, processing incoming inmates, monitoring activities and behavior of inmates, coordinating provision of food, medical care and supplies for inmates, providing courtroom and courthouse security, transporting inmates, preparing documentation, maintaining records, and performing other tasks as assigned. Assignment to Juvenile Detention Center reports to Corporal, Detention.

Minimum Qualifications:  High school diploma or GED; preferred basic jailer certification; supplemented by six months of previous experience.  Must obtain and maintain Basic Jail Certification by attending and passing required in-service training, Chemical Weapons Certification, and CPR Certification.  Assignment to transportation duties requires possession and maintenance of a valid Tennessee driver’s license and proof of insurance.  The ability to pass a drug and alcohol screening is required.  Must possess and maintain a valid Tennessee driver’s license.

Note:  This position is for a male applicant.  This person will be required to oversee, interact and protect the privacy rights of male detainees.  Juvenile Detention Officer Positions are established with a BFOQ (Bona Fide Occupational Qualification) dependent on the gender of the residential unit (male/female) to which they are assigned due to the direct custodial care and nature of the interaction required by these positions.

Juvenile Detention Title 1 Educational Assistant

(Part-Time)

Department: Juvenile Detention

Starting Salary: $12.10/ Hour

Job Summary: The purpose of this classification is to provide classroom related support and assistance to the Juvenile Detention Center’s Educational Staff as related to Title I Programming. Duties and responsibilities include educating/encouraging teenagers to become productive members of society, assisting teacher in developing educational materials and performing instructional tasks in small groups or individually, record keeping, preparing reports, maintaining discipline. Reports to Juvenile Detention Title I Programming Coordinator.

Minimum Qualifications:  Bachelors Degree in Education; or Associates Degree in Education with two years related experiences and/or training; or a student who is a senior in college working towards a degree in education supplemented by a reference letter from Dean of College of Education stating ability to perform along with a 3.0 minimum grade point average; or any equivalent of education and training which provides the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities for this position. Prior successful experience working with at-risk students in an educational environment is preferred.  Must possess and maintain a valid Tennessee driver’s license.

Chancery Court Clerk

(Part-Time)

Department: Chancery Court

Starting Salary: $9.50 per hour

Job Summary:  The purpose of this classification is to perform secretarial/administrative work associated with providing support within the Rutherford County Chancery Clerk and Master’s Office. Duties and responsibilities include scheduling appointments, preparing and issuing orders of the court, assisting the public, attending Chancery Court, assisting the Judge or Chancellor in the courtroom, maintaining records, processing documentation and information, and performing other duties as assigned. Additional functions include checking daily, morning and late afternoon, for any pleadings submitted that are to be filed in case files that will be taken into the courtroom; filing all other pleadings in files located on the third and fifth floors; delivering court dockets and files to the various Judges’ offices, etc. Reports to either Deputy Clerk II or Deputy Clerk III.

Minimum Qualifications:  Bachelor’s degree in addition to credit hours toward a Juris Doctorate Degree; supplemented by one (1) year previous experience and/or training involving legal office work, office administration, public interaction, and personal computer operations; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.  Must have strong organizational skills, customer service skills and attention to detail.  Must possess and maintain a valid Tennessee driver’s license.

Positions Needed:
Voter Registrars (paper style)--pay is $120/day
Voter Registrars (computer style)--pay is $120/day
Voting Machine Operators--pay is $120/day
Computer Set-up Technicians--pay is $170/day--must be knowledgeable enough about computers to set up laptops, connect printers and mouse to laptops, and connect laptops to a network hub. Required training is 2 hours.

Must be at least 17 years old (an excused absence form will be provided for your high school); Must be a registered voter of Rutherford County (unless only 17 years old); Must be reliable and have reliable transportation; Must be able to lift 10-15 pounds (some positions); Computer skills preferred; Cannot be a candidate or elected official; Other restrictions may apply.

Most County employees are not eligible however; teachers and administators at schools are eligible.
