Communications Officer I (Part-Time)

Department: Ambulance Service

Salary: $14.16- $15.21 hr / (Commensurate with Experience)

Hours: PRN with variable schedule          

Job Summary:  The purpose of this classification is to receive/process requests for emergency/non-emergency assistance and to dispatch emergency medical, law enforcement, fire, or other agency resources. Duties and responsibilities include receiving and prioritizing emergency calls, dispatching appropriate law enforcement, emergency personnel, serving as liaison between callers and emergency responders; operating computers and communications equipment, preparing documentation, maintaining records, and performing additional tasks as assigned. Ambulance Service assignment reports to Communications Supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications:  High school diploma or GED; supplemented by 2 months previous experience and/or training involving public safety dispatching, radio communications, and personal computer operations; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. It may require possession and maintenance of valid Emergency Medical Dispatcher certification, 911 Operator certification, and/or CPR/First Aid certification. Must possess and maintain a valid Tennessee driver’s license.

Detention/Corrections Officer (Part-Time)

(Must be able to work night and weekends)

Department: Juvenile Detention Center

Salary: $13.36 - $14.35 / Hour (commensurate with experience)

Job Summary:  The purpose of this classification is to perform security work associated with maintaining the safety, security and welfare of inmates at the Correctional Work Center or Juvenile Detention Center. Duties and responsibilities include enforcing facility rules and regulations, maintaining discipline, processing incoming inmates, monitoring activities and behavior of inmates, coordinating provision of food, medical care and supplies for inmates, providing courtroom and courthouse security, transporting inmates, preparing documentation, maintaining records, and performing other tasks as assigned. Assignment to Juvenile Detention Center reports to Corporal, Detention.

Minimum Qualifications:  High school diploma or GED; preferred basic jailer certification; supplemented by six months of previous experience.  Must obtain and maintain Basic Jail Certification by attending and passing required in-service training, Chemical Weapons Certification, and CPR Certification.  Assignment to transportation duties requires possession and maintenance of a valid Tennessee driver’s license and proof of insurance.  Requires ability to pass Physical Agility test, drug and alcohol screening is required.  Must possess and maintain a valid Tennessee driver’s license.

Note:  This position is for a male applicant.  This person will be required to oversee, interact and protect the privacy rights of male detainees.  Detention Officer Positions are established with a BFOQ (Bona Fide Occupational Qualification) dependent on the gender of the residential unit (male/female) to which they are assigned due to the direct custodial care and nature of the interaction required by these positions.

School Patrol Officer

Department: Rutherford County Sheriff’s Department

Salary: $17.00 / hours

Job Summary:  The School Traffic Safety Patrol person is responsible for the safe and orderly flow of vehicular and pedestrian traffic within a designated school zone within Rutherford County.  This position is considered part-time and seasonal; therefore, School Traffic Safety Patrol employees do not receive any employee fringe benefits.  The working hours will be determined by the opening and closing times of the school to which the employee is assigned.  The employee will be responsible through the chain of command to the Sheriff.  This position is classified as Non-Exempt for the purposes of the Fair Labor Standards Act as having no significant occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens and as Safety Sensitive.

Minimum Qualifications: Must be at least 18 years of age.  Must have legal authorization to work in the United States.  Must not have been convicted of or pleaded guilty to or entered a plea of nolo contendere to any felony charge or to any violation of any state or federal or city ordinances relating to force, violence, theft, dishonesty, gambling, liquor or controlled substances.

Applicants must be able to work 1 hour in the morning and 1 hour in the afternoon. The hour will range between 7-9 am and 2-4 pm. Applicants will not work more than 10 hours a week.
