Cold Case Detective–Major Bill Sharp
Maj. Bill Sharp started his law enforcement career with Woodbury Police Department in 1991 and transferred to Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office in July 1993.
Sharp served in the Patrol Division for three years before being promoted to detective in 1996. Sharp has also worked in Marine Patrol and Mounted Patrol units as extra assignments.
Sharp has been a supervisor in CID, Narcotics, and Criminal Warrants divisions. He returned to CID as a lieutenant in July 2007 to oversee and investigate Cold Case Homicides and other felonies.
Sharp was promoted to major over Criminal Investigations Division in 2012.
He earned a Bachelor’s of Science Degree from Middle Tennessee State University in 1992. Sharp graduated from the 234th session of the FBI National Academy in September 2008 and graduated Northwestern University’s School of Police Staff and Command Class #332 in 2012.
Sharp teaches cold case homicide investigations, basic investigations, report writing, and forensic investigations classes to law enforcement and civilians.
Sharp and Goodwin have arrested subjects for six murders and one kidnapping committed between 1979 and 1994. All but two of those subjects have been convicted at trial or entered guilty pleas, with the latest two murder cases set for trial in 2013.
In his spare time Sharp enjoys fishing and spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren.
