“This app will make public information about the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office more accessible to our citizens,” Sheriff Arnold said. “The app greatly improves our ability to serve citizens.” The app is also fully integrated with the county’s victim notification service, VINE (Victim Information and Notification Everyday). “We know that more and more people are getting the information they need from their Smart phones,” said Sheriff Arnold. “We want to make sure we’re using the latest communication technology to keep citizens informed, and this app lets us do that.” Detective Capt. Larry Pace said Appriss officials presented idea of using the app to him and Sheriff Arnold agreed it would be a good tool to communicate with citizens. “This provides information where people may want to check on family, friends and acquaintances to see if they’re in jail or not,” Capt. Pace said. Patrol officers in the field may look up photos of inmates or wanted suspects. Although the app is free, attorneys and bondsmen may advertise on the site. The app will be expanded soon to I phones, Capt. Pace said. Other fields will be coming soon.
Rutherford County, Tennessee has consistently ranked as one of the fastest growing counties in the United States. Latest U.S. Census figures put our population at more than 250,000, but that doesn't take into account the 24,000+ students at Middle Tennessee State University or the thousands who drive through Rutherford County every day on our federal and state roads. The Rutherford County Sheriff's Office is one of the largest sheriff's offices in Middle Tennessee, covering a territory of more than 626 square miles with a force of approximately 178 sworn law enforcement personnel of which 37 are School Resource Officers, 7 are assigned to Courthouse Security, and another 135 Adult Detention Personnel and 68 civilian personnel. Additionally, we are responsible for approximately 5 square miles of J. Percy Priest Reservoir which lie inside our county. The Sheriff's Office serves three primary areas: 1) Law Enforcement, 2) Adult Detention and 3) Courts. In addition to these primary functions, the Rutherford County Sheriff's Office brought the School Resource Officer (SRO) program to the state of Tennessee, and now has officers in approximately 40 county schools teaching, advising and protecting. |
