Bobby Farley

My name is Deputy Bobby Farley and I am currently one of the School Resource Officers at Oakland High School. I have been employed with the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office since February 22nd, 1999. I started my career at the Sheriff’s Office in the Detention Division (Jail) where I worked for approximately 2 years. I then went on to work in the Patrol Division for approximately 3 years before being transferred to the Narcotics Investigation Unit where I stayed for approximately 2 years. I then returned to Patrol for another 2 years before moving over to the School Resource Officer Division. I started in the SRO Program by working at Stewarts Creek Elementary and Smyrna Primary School. Since that time I have worked at Smyrna Elementary, John Coleman Elementary, Smyrna High School, Oakland High School, Holloway High School, Lavergne High School, and Riverdale High School before returning back to Oakland High in the 2011-2012 school year.

I am a lifelong citizen of Rutherford County and attended Hobgood Elementary, Black Fox Elementary, Central Middle School, and Riverdale High School where I graduated from in 1997. I was married to my beautiful wife Jennifer in 2006 and we have three wonderful sons (Cameron, Brayden, and Peyton).

Over my years at the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office I have had the privilege of attending several specialized training schools on Interview and Interrogation Techniques, Narcotics Investigation Courses, Instructor Development School, Domestic Violence Investigations, Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Instructor’s Course Certification, Street Gangs Identification and Investigation, as well as attending the annual National Gang Crime Research Center National Conference. I current assist in instructing classes at the department involving Interview and Interrogation Techniques and Gang Member Identification. I also instruct a Child Abuse Recognition and Reporting Class to student teachers at Middle Tennessee State University and have spoken to other citizen groups about Gangs in our community. I have also recently been appointed by Sheriff Robert Arnold as one of the Department’s Gang Intelligence Officers, where I and with the assistance of all other officers at the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office identify gang members in the community and I keep a confidential database of these members.

I feel very fortunate to be a part of the SRO Division because I believe that reaching the kids of our community today will educate and guide them about the problems they will face in the future. I believe by doing that it will help serve our community in a strong way when the future comes. I would like to express to all the parents and concerned citizens of Rutherford County that I am available to help in any way that I can, so please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or concerns about what might be going on within our great community. I am also available to speak at community events that citizens of the community have concerns about in our schools or in our community, so please do not hesitate to contact me if you would like for me to speak.
