Post-Medicare Retiree Medicare Advantage Plan Information
We are excited to announce that Rutherford County's Post-Medicare retiree medical and prescription drug benefits will be carried by Humana Medicare Advantage (PPO) beginning January 1, 2026.
You should soon be receiving a welcome packet with a RetireeFirst Frequently Asked Questions guide and the 2026 Election Form from Rutherford County that you will need to return to the Insurance & Risk Management office to make changes to your benefits. In October, you will also receive a Humana Pre-Enrollment Kit with the 2026 Humana Medicare Advantage plan booklet. Review all of these mailings to find instructions for Annual Enrollment, a summary of your medical benefits, your formulary, and additional resources.
If you are enrolled in Rutherford County's current Cigna Medicare Advantage plan and do not return the 2026 Election Form opting out of the Humana Medicare Advantage plan in 2026, your enrollment will be transitioned to the Humana Medicare Advantage plan on January 1, 2026.
Informational Events about the 2026 plan change
There will be two in-person events designed to bring you the information you need to know about the change in Medicare Advantage plans and introduce you to RetireeFirst.
These events will be held at Lane Agri-Park (315 John Rice Blvd., Suite 101, Murfreesboro TN 37129), in the Conference Room of the front building on:
- September 23, 2025 at 2:00 PM
- September 24, 2025 at 9:00 AM
We will also post an informational video to this website for those who are unable to attend the in-person events or want to review the information they received during the in-person events.

RetireeFirst Advocates are US-based and available to help you navigate the complex retiree healthcare landscape. While they aren't affiliated with Humana, they will be able to help answer questions you have about your Humana Medicare Advantage plan and troubleshoot any issues you may have.

Humana Medicare Advantage Plan coverage
The transition to the Humana Medicare Advantage plan comes with several enhancements to your benefits and includes:
- $0 medical deductible
- In- and out-of-network coverage (you can go to any provider willing to bill the Humana Medicare Advantage plan)
- $250 combined maximum benefit coverage per year for all preventive and comprehensive dental benefits
- $0 Routine Eye Exam, 1 per year ($175 out-of-network)
- $250 combined maximum benefit coverage per year for contact lenses and eyeglasses
- $2,000 maximum benefit coverage per year for hearing aid(s)
- $0 copay for chiropractic, acupuncture, and podiatry visits up to the allowable annual number of visits
