Occupational Therapy focuses on rehabilitation and recovery of functional independence including skills such as eating, bathing, toileting, dressing, and grooming.
What is Speech Therapy?
For individuals who have suffered from a stroke, dementia, or a neurological disorder, speech therapy focuses on rehabilitation and recovering of speech, comprehension, chewing and swallowing as well as cognitive language skills.
What is Skilled Nursing Care?
Skilled nursing care is medical care provided by nurses under a doctor’s supervision. Patients may go from the hospital to a skilled nursing facility to continue recovering after an illness, injury or surgery. In addition to skilled nursing, care may include rehabilitative services from licensed physical therapists, occupational therapists or speech therapists.
A skilled nursing facility provides transitional care. The goal is to get well enough to go home.
What is Long-Term Nursing Care?
Long-term care is provided by nurses and nurse aides. Care is focused on activities of daily living, like dressing, bathing and eating.
People sometimes move to nursing home when they are unable to take care of themselves due to medical, cognitive, or functional issues. In addition to custodial care, nursing home residents may get help taking medications or managing chronic conditions.
A nursing home provides long-term residential care. The goal is to provide a safe, comfortable and caring environment for people who are unable to live independently but have more medical needs than can be provided in assisted living
I Need Physical Therapy and Skilled Nursing Care After a Hospital Stay, How Can I Come to Community Care of Rutherford County?
If you are in the hospital and in need of skilled nursing care or physical therapy, tell your caseworker at the hospital you want to come to Community Care of Rutherford County. The caseworker will send a referral, and we will review it and work on insurance authorization.
Does Medicare Pay for Long-Term Care in a Nursing Home?
Medicare does not cover long-term care in a nursing home, though Medicaid or private long-term health insurance may.
How Long Can I Stay for Skilled Nursing Care?
If you have traditional Medicare, your discharge date is based on meeting your goals to go home safely and participating in therapy. If you have a Medicare Advantage Insurance Plan or other Insurance Plan, your discharge date is based on when insurance determines you are ready to move to a lower level of care such as home health.

Valuable personal property such as heirloom jewelry. We encourage residents to send these types of items home with family because confused residents may not have the ability to understand that an item is not theirs since everything in their home was theirs. Residents tend to hide items for safe keeping or leave items like cash in pockets which ends up in the laundry.
What Furniture Can I Bring If I Am Staying Long-Term Care?
Generally, you do not need any furniture. Room size is limited so all furniture must be approved by the Maintenance Director prior to bringing it in to ensure furniture does not block emergency access. Used furniture must be inspected by Maintenance prior to bringing it in to prevent pests like bed bugs.
Can You Prevent My Loved One from Falling?
If a resident has a history of falls, they may fall again. Not every fall is preventable. We take reasonable measures to prevent falls. This may include a medication review by a doctor or nurse practitioner, patient centered interventions recommended by an interdisciplinary team, or a referral for physical or occupational therapy (pending insurance authorization). We do not physically restrain residents to avoid falls.
Can You Prevent My Loved One from Having A Pressure Sore?
Sometimes skin breakdown is clinically unavoidable. This is especially true when a resident has organ failure as skin (like other organs) can break down even with treatment. We take reasonable measures to prevent skin breakdown including having a wound care nurse on staff and weekly wound care doctor visits for those that need wound treatments. Community Care of Rutherford County received the Vohra Wound Physicians Center of Excellence in Wound Management award in 2025.

Community Care of Rutherford County has a wide range of activities that celebrate nostalgic traditions such as folk art, music, and gardening in our country setting.
Do You Have Outdoor Space?
Community Care of Rutherford County has three courtyards for residents to enjoy outdoor space. Residents enjoy activities such as planting in our raised beds in the Butterfly Garden.
What Type of Community Activities Are Offered?
Community Care of Rutherford County has annual community activities including the Independence Day celebration, Easter Egg Hunt, and a Fall Festival. We also offer resident and family specific events such as our Mother’s Day Tea and Resident Holiday Meal.

What is Generation Connected?
Generation’s Connected is our onsite daycare and serves children ages 6 weeks to 5 years, providing opportunities for meaningful interactions between residents and children.

Full-Time employees of Community Care of Rutherford County receive a discount on childcare at Generations Connected Daycare.
Can My Spouse Spend the Night?
We do not offer overnight stays to non-residents in the nursing home because this community is home to our residents and they should feel comfortable at night.
Can My Grandchildren Visit?
Children are encouraged to visit the nursing home with their families. Community Care of Rutherford County has community events throughout the year to encourage families to come visit and socialize with our nursing home residents.
Is Smoking Allowed?
Nursing home residents are not allowed to smoke on the property.
