Medical Insurance Information

Rutherford County's medical benefits for full-time employees are carried by Cigna Healthcare.

Which plan is right for me?

You can find the Benefit Summaries and Summaries of Benefits and Coverage for each plan on the Medical Plan Documents page.

The Cigna Easy Choice Tool is designed to help you weigh the strengths of each plan against your family's needs and make it easy to compare which plan and network is the best fit for your situation. You can use the code EETUFUG1 to view 2026 premiums with the $25 per month wellness credit premium reduction.

We also recommend reviewing the Benefit Guide found on the Employee Insurance Benefits home page to see a side-by-side comparison of Rutherford County's medical plans. Important differences to pay attention to are each plan's deductibles, copay and coinsurance amounts, Health Savings Account (HSA) eligibility and contribution amounts, and prescription drug costs.

Keep in mind that the Deductible Plan is a grandfathered plan and is not open to new enrollees.

If you have any questions about Rutherford County's medical plans, you can contact a Benefits Specialist in the Insurance & Risk Management office at [email protected].

Who can I cover on my medical insurance?

When you enroll your spouse or children in medical, dental, and/or vision benefits, you'll need to provide certain verification documentation for them.

  • Newly hired employees must submit all dependent verification documents within 60 calendar days of your date of hire, with day 1 being your hire date.
  • Documentation for any new dependents enrolled during Annual Enrollment must be submitted by November 30th each year.
  • Submit documents to the Insurance & Risk Management department at [email protected] as PDFs or pictures.
  • If you don't provide verification for your dependents within the required time frame, you won't be able to cover them.

IMPORTANT! Spouses are only eligible to be covered under your medical insurance if they are not offered employer group medical coverage that meets Affordable Care Act (ACA) guidelines through their employer. If your spouse is an employee of Rutherford County Schools and eligible for benefits, they are not eligible to be covered under your insurance, whether or not they have chosen to enroll in Rutherford County Schools medical insurance.

  • When you first enroll your spouse in your medical insurance and each year after Annual Enrollment, you'll need to submit the Spousal Healthcare Eligibility Affidavit
  • If you're only covering your spouse on dental and/or vision insurance, or if you are covering your children on medical, dental, and/or vision insurance, you only need to provide verification documents the first year you enroll them or after each break in their coverage.
