Latest COVID-19 Updates

The Smyrna Emissions testing center will resume regular business hours on June 10th, 2020.

• The office is now open and operating under normal business hours. Social distancing will be practiced and the number of citizens allowed in the office will be limited.

Murfreesboro Emission station re-opened May 25, 2020.
*March, April and May renewals are exempt from testing until June 15th.*

You can still renew your vehicle registration online or by mail.

  • If you have purchased a vehicle from an individual, then a notarized bill of sale or the properly re-assigned title should be kept in the automobile while driving. Either of these will serve as a temporary registration and proof of ownership until June 15, 2020.

  • If you have purchased a vehicle from a dealership, you should have been issued a Temporary Tag, which is extended to June 15, 2020. If you were not issued a temporary tag, or purchased from an out of state dealer, then a copy of the Bill of Sale can be used to serve as proof of ownership.

  • If you are new to State of Tennessee, you will also be afforded the June 15 extension.

If you have purchased a Marriage License and it was set to expire between March 12, 2020 and May 31, 2020, then the expiration date has been extended until June 30, 2020.

Business Licenses
The date for filing Business Tax Returns has been extended to June 15, 2020 by the Tennessee Department of Revenue. This means that business licenses issued during 2019 will not expire until July 15, 2020.

Until further notice, the County Clerk will NOT have their Eagleville office open on Mondays. The Murfreesboro office will renew tags at their drive-up window.

New Kiosk for Renewal
The Kiosk allows the County Clerk’s Office to offer a Self-Service Renewal checkout. They must have their renewal notice with the bar code, the Kiosk only accepts Debit or Credit Cards. Citizens can now enjoy the convenience and saving of time of the self-service renewal terminal. The system is designed to have a renewal registration in the citizens hands within a minute.

Mobile Emissions Inspection
A mobile emissions inspection unit will be in Lane Agri Park (315 John R Rice Blvd.) every First and Last Tuesday during the hours of 8am - 1pm. Please note, severe weather or operational constraints may prohibit operation of this testing unit. Please call the hotline at 399-8995 to ensure the unit is operating.
