Mattress Recycling

Effective August 1, 2026, Rutherford County Solid Waste requires mattress and box spring recycling at designated Convenience Centers.
Mattresses are bulky, difficult to compact, and consume limited landfill space. Through our partnership with Spring Back Recycling, mattresses and box springs are dismantled so their steel, wood, foam, and fabric can be recovered and recycled into new products.
This program helps conserve landfill space, improves safety for Rutherford County Solid Waste employees, and provides a more sustainable solution for managing these materials.

Recycling Fee
A $25.00 recycling fee applies to each mattress and each box spring. The recycling fee is paid directly to our recycling partner, Spring Back Recycling, which transports, dismantles, and recycles the materials. Rutherford County does not retain any portion of this fee.
This program does not affect mattress retailer haul-away or disposal services. Residents may continue to use those services if they choose.
