Rutherford County Inaugural Employee Picnic A Success

Rutherford County – TN (07/08/2024) The inaugural Rutherford County Employee Picnic was held on Monday, July 1 at the transfer station construction site located at 6000 Landfill Road in Murfreesboro.

The picnic was hosted by the Solid Waste Department.  Roughly 600-700 employees attended with Rutherford County Commissioners Carl Boyd, Joshua James, Anthony Johnson, Michael Kusch, Allen McAdoo, Romel McMurry, Hope Oliver, Robert Peay Jr., Pettus Read, and Chantho Sourinho.  Lunch was catered by the Slick Pig and music was provided by Ben Potter and Friends.  Hayrides to the landfill for a tour were available.

“Rutherford County Solid Waste is proud to have been able to host the inaugural Rutherford County Employee Picnic, said Solid Waste Director Bishop Wagener.  “Thank you Mayor Carr for making this possible, and to all of our hard working public servants. You all are the reason Rutherford County is such a wonderful place to live.”

“Couldn't have asked for more perfect weather to have a good meal while listening to a great band and spending some time with fellow employees, said Assistant Public Safety Director Tim Hooker. “I've been with the county 19 years, and this was a first. It was very much appreciated.”

“It was great spending time with our extended work family socializing and fellowshipping outside the office,” said Correctional Work Center Lieutenant Jason Peralta.  “The picnic was a great way to celebrate and strengthen relationships with our colleagues.”

"You couldn't have asked for a nicer day, said Planning Director Doug Demosi, AICP.” “ It was great seeing so many of our coworkers all enjoying the music, food, and fellowship.  Can't wait until next year."

Mayor Joe Carr started the annual picnic because of the belief that county employees are the greatest resource.  “ I appreciate the dedication and commitment our employees show serving the fastest-growing county in Tennessee and in that regard, this event is a thank you,” Carr said.
