Rutherford County Mayor Announces Open House To Present Draft Comprehensive Plan For Public Review
Rutherford County – TN (10/07/2024) Rutherford County Mayor Joe Carr announces an open house meeting to release the draft of ‘PlanRutherford,’ an initiative that engaged residents and stakeholders in shaping the update to the county’s comprehensive plan.
Rutherford County will host the open house for the public at the Lane Agri-Park Community Center in Murfreesboro on Thursday, October 24 to present the goals, objectives, and strategies developed by community input over the last 24 months.
“I look forward to sharing this draft plan with residents so they can see how their input has influenced its development,” said Mayor Joe Carr. “The updated comprehensive plan will help tackle long-term infrastructure challenges and other issues that come with expansion due to the county’s rapid growth. We’ve partnered with all stakeholders to make sure we navigate the expansion issues effectively. The people of this county expect a high quality of life, and this plan will help ensure we meet those expectations."
The County’s population has increased by nearly 700 new residents per month since 2010 and is projected to exceed half a million people by 2045. This plan will help elected officials guide growth and development in a manner that reflects the vision of the county’s residents. In addition, it provided an opportunity to coordinate infrastructure plans and investments across Rutherford’s municipalities. Input received throughout this process informed recommendations for land use policies, economic development strategies, open space priorities, and capital improvement programs aimed at addressing traffic congestion, local school capacity, and other government services and utilities.
The PlanRutherford open house event will be held on Thursday, October 24 from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. with various information stations for attendees to learn about the county and feedback from their fellow residents.
“The Comprehensive Plan Steering Committee has been involved in study, research and planning for over two years and are now reaching the goal of a completed workable comprehensive plan in planning for future Rutherford County development and growth,” said Commissioner Pettus Read. “It has been accomplished by input from citizens of our county and desires of what they want our county to be. The Open House will allow everyone the opportunity to see the results and I hope those who have had input will join us on the 24th.”
The county partnered with Middle Tennessee’s regional planning and economic development agency, the Greater Nashville Regional Council (GNRC), to help develop the update to the comprehensive plan. GNRC is co-owned and operated by the municipal and county governments across the mid-State. For more information about the planning effort or upcoming events, visit PlanRutherford.org.
