Rutherford County Clerk Wins State Award

Rutherford County - TN (11/08/2023)   Rutherford County Clerk Lisa Duke Crowell was named 2023 County Clerk of the Year Tuesday by the County Officials Association of Tennessee (COAT).

Crowell is a constitutional officer elected in 2010 and is serving her fourth term as county clerk.

“I’m surprised, humbled and honored all rolled into one, to receive this award.  I love making a difference for the betterment in our community,” Crowell said.

She credits her success to a dedicated team exemplifying the highest standard of customer service. She recently spearheaded tag renewal kiosks in some county clerk locations to make it more convenient and quicker for Rutherford County residents to renew their license tags.

Mayor Joe Carr said, “Rutherford County is so proud of the work Lisa does for the county.”

Crowell served as secretary/treasurer for the association and now is in line for second vice president.

The county clerk’s office issues license plate registrations, business licenses, marriage licenses, county beer permits and passports at four county clerk locations.

Her office handles conservatorships, guardianships and probate of estates (wills), serves as clerk of the Rutherford County Board of Commissioners and keeps official minutes and records of the commission and the Rutherford County Beer Board.

COAT is comprised of County Clerks, Registers of Deeds, State Court Clerks and Trustees in Tennessee.  A committee of County Clerks across the state nominate candidates based on several factors including dedication.
