Rutherford County Fire Marshal’s Office leading fire investigation at Smyrna Middle School

Rutherford County - TN (April 17, 2025) The Rutherford County Fire Marshal’s Office (RCFMO) is leading the investigation of a fire at Smyrna Middle School. 

The Smyrna Fire Department and Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office School Resource Officers (SRO) responded to a fire in a classroom at the Smyrna Middle School this afternoon. The fire was contained to a portion of the room and extinguished with a fire extinguisher.  

RCFMO was requested and responded to the scene. Following an investigation, it was determined that the fire had been set intentionally. A criminal investigation by RCFMO Investigators in conjunction with the Smyrna Fire Department, Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office SRO Division, and Rutherford County Schools is ongoing. Charges are pending.
