The National Weather Service Skywarn Training is coming to Rutherford County!
Join us for this free, in-person Skywarn Level 1 Training hosted by Rutherford County EMA and Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES).Ryan Husted with NWS Warning Coordination Meteorologist with over 17 years of experience will be instructing this class.
During this 1.5-hour session, you’ll learn:
- How to recognize and report severe weather
- Tennessee’s unique severe weather patterns
- How to interpret storm clouds & radar features
- Severe weather safety tips
- How to provide real-time “ground truth” reports to NWS
Whether you’re brand new or a current spotter wanting a refresher, this training will give you the skills to help keep our community informed and safe.
Why it matters: Rutherford County has experienced multiple tornadoes and severe storms in recent years—we need more trained weather spotters!
