What is the Wellness Incentive Program?

The mission of Rutherford County’s Wellness Incentive Program is to encourage employees and their families to take advantage of the health-promoting opportunities available through their employer-sponsored insurance and wellness program. We understand that access to and use of preventive care and education on building healthy lifestyles can impact and improve every area of life.

 What are Wellness Points?

Wellness Points are an opportunity for employees to earn a $300 Wellness Credit each year by completing certain healthy actions with point values assigned. The Wellness Credit is an annualized credit applied to your medical premiums. The amount of the premium reduction per pay period is based on your payroll deduction frequency.

When can I earn Wellness Points?

You can earn Wellness Points from October 1st through September 30th each year. The Wellness Credit is reflected in your medical premiums beginning the following plan year on January 1st.

How can I earn Wellness Points?

You and your spouse, if enrolled in your medical plan, may each earn 500 Wellness Points per person by completing certain preventive screenings and wellness-focused activities. At least 300 Wellness Points must be earned from the Essential/Recommended Tier and up to 200 Wellness Points may be earned from the Elective Tier. The total of all points per person should be equal to or greater than 500. Please see the chart below to see how many points can be accumulated per activity.

Both you and your spouse (if enrolled) need to participate and earn the required 500 points each in order to be eligible for the Wellness Credit. If a spouse is on the medical plan during the current plan year, they are required to get the accumulated points even if they will not be on the medical plan the following year.

The Wellness Education Courses are available in the Wellness Center in MyBenefitsChannel. You and your covered spouse can follow the instructions in the documents below the chart to access the courses and earn up to 200 Wellness Points.

Options to earn points include:

Keep in mind that dependent children covered under your medical plan don't need to earn Wellness Points.

Does my spouse need to register for MyBenefitsChannel?

Yes, your spouse, if covered on your medical plan, will need to register for their own account with MyBenefitsChannel to view their Wellness Points and earn points through the Wellness Education Courses and Health Assessment. You will not be able to view your spouse's points on your MyBenefitsChannel account.

Your spouse can register for their MyBenefitsChannel account by following the step-by-step instructions linked below.

Where can I see how many Wellness Points I have?

The "My Wellness Plan" tab, located in the Wellness Center in MyBenefitsChannel, is where you and your spouse, if covered, can each find the Wellness Points you've earned. For detailed instructions on how to locate your points, please see the documents below according to the view you prefer to use in MyBenefitsChannel.

**Please remember it may take 8-10 weeks from the date of your service for your points to be reflected on your profile.

On the "Wellness Activities" tab, you can also find the Wellness Points you’ve earned, a list of available Wellness Points, and the number of Points each activity earns.

Keep in mind that there aren't any specific activities that are required to be a part of your 500 points. You may choose which activities to complete as long as you and your spouse, if enrolled in the medical plan, each earn 500 points (300 from the Essential/Recommended Tier, and another 200 from either tier).

 How are Wellness Points reported?

Many points will be recorded directly from Cigna if your Rutherford County insurance was used. For example, if you go to your primary care doctor for an annual physical, Cigna will receive a claim from your doctor’s office with a code for an annual physical. Within 8-10 weeks of that appointment, depending on how quickly your doctor's office submits the claim to Cigna, your points will be reported to the MyBenefitsChannel Wellness Platform.

Another option to receive your points would be to have your doctor complete a Wellness Certification Form (attached below) and return it to the Rutherford County Benefits team (instructions are printed on the form). Please note that this form must be completed in order to earn the elective Dental Cleaning or Annual Eye Exam points if you are not using Rutherford County dental or vision insurance.

If you would like to earn some of your points with the Wellness Education content, located on the "Wellness Education" tab, you must pass the short quiz at the end of the course and those points will be automatically recorded for you. The maximum number of points you can receive for Wellness Education is 200, but you may complete as many of these items as you would like.

Wellness Point Form 2026 - Provider Service Completion If you are not using your Cigna Insurance for a Wellness Activity you are having completed, have your healthcare provider complete this form.

How can I submit points that aren't showing?

Most of your Wellness Points are claims-driven, which means that your healthcare provider will submit a claim to Cigna for the services they provided. Cigna receives those claims and determines if they were coded as one of the activities that earns Wellness Points. Once those claims are processed within about 8-10 weeks they should show up on your Wellness Platform. If you feel you completed an activity that your healthcare provider billed for but it is not showing on your Wellness Platform within 8-10 weeks, you may reach out to our Cigna Senior Client Service Partner, Candi Turner, and she can look into the claims submitted to see how your provider submitted the claim. Candi Turner can be reached by email at [email protected]

If you still need to submit points completed that are not showing up, you may have your doctor complete a Wellness Certification Form (attached below) and return it to the Rutherford County Benefits team (instructions are printed on the form). Please note that this form must be completed in order to earn the elective Dental Cleaning or Annual Eye Exam points if you are not using Rutherford County dental or vision insurance.
