Rutherford County Celebrates Emergency Medical Services Week
Rutherford County Mayor Joe Carr and Emergency Medical Service Director Brian Gaither recognize and thank the Rutherford County Emergency Medical Service department during National Emergency Medical Services Week.
The week was started in 1974, by President Gerald Ford to honor emergency medical services (EMS) professionals and their vital work in the community. Organized by the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) and the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians (NAEMT), this week celebrates the dedication of those who provide lifesaving services on the frontlines of healthcare, ensuring their important contributions to community health and safety are recognized.
Carr knows the dedication of the Rutherford County EMS professionals is only second to their expertise.
“It’s hard to go anywhere in the county and not see one of our EMS units responding to an emergency situation,” Carr said. “They handle an average of 4,000 calls per month. We are fortunate to have such superior talent working in the community.”
Gaither “EMS Week is an opportunity to recognize the incredible professionals who serve Rutherford County with skill, compassion, and unwavering commitment,” Gaither said. “Every day, our team shows up ready to help—often in tough and stressful situations—and they do it with care, skill, and heart. I’m proud to work alongside a team that consistently goes above and beyond—not for recognition, but because they are dedicated to making a difference in the lives of others. This week, we celebrate their service and honor the vital role they play in making a difference in our community.”
The EMS department has been spotlighting the team for the entire month of May as one week can’t even begin to highlight all of the team members and accomplishments.
The department faithfully serves the community, whether answering a service call, staging at a public event, or participating in a career day to inspire future emergency medical service personnel.
