Juvenile Detention Center
About Us
The Rutherford County Juvenile Detention Center is a 60-bed facility, located in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. We provide secure housing for juveniles who are awaiting court dispositions or transportation to a permanent placement.
Besides providing necessary beds for Rutherford County youths, we can provide contract beds for surrounding Tennessee counties, the U.S. Marshals office and the Immigration and Naturalization Service.
The Rutherford County Juvenile Detention Center Commission Board is charged with the supervision and governance of the Rutherford County Juvenile Detention Center as provided in Private Chapter No. 65 (2022). The Board supports the safe, lawful, and humane operation of the detention center and the effective administration of its programs and services.
The Board is committed to ensuring that youth placed in detention are treated in accordance with applicable state and federal law, including established standards governing safety, medical care, education, and rehabilitation. Through regular meetings, review of reports, facility inspections, and oversight of the Director, the Board promotes accountability, operational excellence, and responsible stewardship of public resources.
In carrying out its statutory duties, the Board seeks to foster an environment within the detention center that emphasizes safety, respect, structure, and opportunities for positive growth. The Board supports efforts within the facility to prevent further delinquency and respond appropriately to youth misconduct by encouraging rehabilitative services, accountability, and hope for a better future for youth entrusted to its care.
Within its oversight role, the Board encourages collaboration and open communication with juvenile justice partners and community stakeholders to strengthen lawful operations, support public safety, and respect the defined roles of courts, law enforcement, and other agencies.
