Parent Information
Rutherford County understands that having a child detained in a detention facility can be stressful, and difficult. You will be given lots of information relevant to your child and possibly even important juvenile court information. We are hopeful this parent information sheet will help give you the initial information and resources you may need. Feel free to contact us any time with questions or concerns.

Visitation
Call the main facility number to schedule
30 minutes visits; by appointment and scheduled in advance Parent/Legal Guardians only
Tuesdays & Thursdays = 5:00pm - 9:00pm
Saturday = 12 noon - 4:00pm

*No facility to facility mail unless from a legal guardian
*Can receive mail from anyone unless a no contact order exists
*Youth can mail out 2 free pieces of mail a week
Medical
Please bring all of your child's prescribed medications to RCJDC as soon as possible. Medications must be in original containers, with your child's name on it and can not be administered if out of date. The medication will by administered per the dosing instruction on the bottle. If this needs to be updated, have the child's physician fax the updated dosing to our fax number. This helps to ensure your child receives the best care possible while detained. Licensed medical professionals provide a sick call three times daily.
Medical Bills
RCJDC does not charge for in-house medical services. Parents/Legal Guardians are still legally and financially responsible for their children, and any necessary outside medical services will result in billing.
If your child is suspected of being under the influence of any illegal substance, they will be medically cleared through a local Emergency Room prior to being accepted into the facility.
Miscellaneous
If you child will be detained for more than a day, we supply them with toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant, soap, shampoo, feminine hygiene products, and a comb.
We are able to wash detainee clothing items regularly but having extras pairs of under clothes can be helpful.
You may choose to bring the following approved items:
- up to 5 pair of white socks
- up to 5 plain white t-shirts (no pockets)
- up to 5 white sports bras
- up to 5 pair of under wear (no thongs, buttons, strings, boxers any color as long as they don't have strings or buttons or snaps)
-Playing cards ( optional)
-Paperback books are optional as all detainees can access the JDC library (no, hardback books, no magazines, no puzzle books).
- Up to 5 appropriate personal pictures
Items may be dropped off at the Intake Door at the front of the Juvenile Services Center (faces Church Street) twenty-four hours a day.
Meals
Three meals are served daily. Meal times are generally:
Breakfast = 6am
Lunch = 11am
Dinner = 5pm
Additionally there is an evening snack.
Clothing
All detainees are issued a black and white jumpsuit and correctional issue footwear.
Programming
Detainees have many opportunities to participate in facility programming, including but not limited to:
Educational Services
Daily exercise
Religious Services (voluntary/optional)
Leisure Time/T.V. time Supplemental Educational Services
Special Programming may include any of the following: (Pet Partners, Job Readiness, Substance Abuse classes, Real World Health, Drum therapy, On My Own simulations, Self-Awareness classes)
Fingerprinting
Any youth brought to RC.JDC for felony processing must be fingerprinted. These fingerprints will be submitted to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and placed on file.
Appearing in RC Juvenile Court
Parents/Legal Guardians are required to attend all court dates with their children.
Release
Only Parents/Legal Guardians are authorized to sign out their child. Please use the Intake door and have your picture I.D. ready.
