Special Enrollments

If you and/or your dependents pick up medical, dental, or vision coverage elsewhere, you and/or your dependents may be eligible to drop your corresponding Rutherford County insurance. The Rutherford County insurance policies eligible to be terminated must correspond to the benefits gained and the people who gained coverage.

To terminate your corresponding Rutherford County insurance for you and/or your dependents due to a gain of coverage, you must:

1. Notify the Insurance & Risk Management Department within 30 days of your gain of coverage at [email protected]
2. Provide a Gain of Coverage Letter from your new insurer, insurance administrator, or employer that includes:
• The benefits gained (medical, dental, and/or vision)
• The effective date of the new coverage
• The people who gained coverage

If you and/or your dependents lose medical, dental, and/or vision coverage elsewhere, you and/or your dependents may be eligible to enroll in corresponding Rutherford County insurance. Though the Rutherford County insurance policies eligible to be picked up must correspond to the people and benefits lost, you may change plans to suit your new needs (ex: HDHP to Copay plan).

To enroll in corresponding Rutherford County insurance for you and/or your dependents due to a loss of coverage, you must:

1. Notify the Insurance & Risk Management Department within 30 days of your loss of coverage at [email protected]
2. Provide a Loss of Coverage Letter or COBRA notice from your old insurer, insurance administrator, or employer that includes:
• The benefits lost (medical, dental, and/or vision)
• The termination date of the old coverage
• The people who lost coverage
3. Provide the appropriate dependent verification documentation for your new dependents, if they are not already covered on your medical, dental, and/or vision plans
4. Provide the plans and networks in which you want to enroll your new dependents

If you get married during the plan year, you may be able to enroll your new spouse and/or stepchildren in Rutherford County benefits. You have the option to add them to the plans you are already enrolled in, switch plans or networks, or pick up plans for which your new dependents are eligible.

To add your spouse and/or stepchildren to your benefits, you must:

1. Notify the Insurance & Risk Management Department within 30 days of your marriage at [email protected]
2. Provide a copy of your Marriage Certificate
3. Provide the appropriate dependent verification documentation for your spouse and/or stepchildren if you enroll them in medical, dental, and/or vision insurance
4. Provide the plans and networks in which you want to enroll your spouse and/or stepchildren

If you experience a divorce during the plan year, you will need to drop your former spouse and stepchildren from your benefits. Insurance coverage will terminate for your former spouse and stepchildren as of the date your divorce is finalized.

To drop coverage for your former spouse and stepchildren, you must

1. Notify the Insurance & Risk Management Department within 30 days of the finalization of your divorce at [email protected]
2. Provide a copy of your signed Divorce Decree

If you have a child born during the plan year, congratulations! You may enroll your newborn in Rutherford County benefits. You have the option to add your child to the plans you are already enrolled in, switch plans or networks, or pick up plans for which your new dependent is eligible.

To cover your newborn, you must:

1. Notify the Insurance & Risk Management Department within 30 days of the birth of your child at [email protected]
2. Provide a copy of the mother's copy of your child's Birth Certificate
3. When available, provide a copy of your child's Social Security card
4. Provide the plans and networks in which you want to enroll your child

If you adopt a child during the plan year, congratulations! You may enroll your child in Rutherford County benefits. You have the option to add your child to the plans you are already enrolled in, switch plans or networks, or pick up plans for which your new dependent is eligible.

To add your child to your benefits, you must:

1. Notify the Insurance & Risk Management Department within 30 days of the placement or finalization of adoption at [email protected]
2. Provide the appropriate dependent verification documents for your child
3. Provide the plans and networks in which you want to enroll your child
