Electronic waste is collected at the following Rutherford County Recycle Centers.

What is Collected
Rutherford County Convenience Centers accept select electronics from Rutherford County residents at no cost.
Accepted items include electronics that contain data, reusable components, or recyclable materials, such as:
- Laptops and desktop computers
- Mobile phones and tablets
- Game consoles
- Vinyl records, VHS, video games & media
- Monitors and televisions
- Cords, chargers, and related accessories
- Small electronic devices with an electric cord or internal battery
All materials are received by trained attendants and processed through City eWaste’s approved recycling and data handling workflows..
What is NOT Collected
The following items are not accepted at Rutherford County Convenience Centers:
- Tool batteries, Lithium ion batteries or standalone household batteries
- Damaged or swollen batteries
- Lightbulbs of any kind
- Medical or clinical devices
- Hazardous waste or liquids
- Electronic waste from businesses or organizations (laptops are fine)
- Large household appliances
Businesses or individuals with non-residential electronics, large quantities, or specialized materials should contact City eWaste directly at www.cityewaste.com or 615-807-0520 to discuss appropriate disposal options.
Data Security
Rutherford County and City eWaste take data security seriously.
Electronics containing storage media, including laptops, desktops, and mobile devices, are secured upon collection and handled through controlled processing channels. All sensitive data is handled using industry-standard methods performed by R2-certified downstream partners, which may include secure data wiping or physical destruction.
While data destruction is performed as part of the recycling process, residents are encouraged to:
- Sign out of iCloud (Apple devices) or Google accounts (Android devices and Chromebooks)
- Remove personal information from devices
